Seattle Children’s has signed an enterprise-wide agreement to deploy Abridge’s AI-powered ambient clinical intelligence platform across its health system, following a three-month pilot that spanned 18 paediatric specialities.

The children’s hospital, which employs more than 2,000 clinicians and supports over half a million patient visits each year, is adopting the technology as part of a strategy to reduce documentation burden and advance innovation in paediatric care.

Pittsburgh-based Abridge AI platform turns medical conversations into clinically useful and billable documentation at the point of care.

Its technology is used across outpatient, inpatient and emergency settings, with integration into electronic health record systems and support for more than 28 languages and 50 specialities.

During the 90-day pilot, clinicians reported a 79% average reduction in documentation effort, with Abridge supporting 72% of eligible patient encounters.

According to Abridge, the platform was chosen for its ability to address the unique demands of paediatric documentation, including developmental milestones, interactions with multiple caregivers, and complex visit types.

By capturing and structuring information at the point of conversation, Abridge hopes to help clinicians focus more on patients while producing high-quality clinical notes that support care continuity and billing accuracy.

“We wanted a tool that could free our clinicians to support our highest priority — delivering high-quality, compassionate care to every child and family who needs us,” said Dr Zafar Chaudry, senior vice-president, chief digital officer and chief AI and information officer at Seattle Children’s.

“Abridge stood out for its paediatric-aware platform, its ability to reduce burnout and streamline the documentation process, and the quality of its team.”

Seattle Children’s plans to expand the platform beyond the initial pilot cohort in the coming months, rolling it out to more clinicians across inpatient, outpatient and emergency care.

The hospital also plans to use upcoming product enhancements, including visit-level diagnosis intelligence, a structured medical decision-making section tailored for paediatric emergency medicine, and progress notes for inpatient care.

Shiv Rao, CEO and co-founder of Abridge added: “Together, we’re going deep, building speciality-specific paediatric notes, refining our workflows based on clinician feedback, and delivering smarter documentation that meets the highest standards of care.”
