DoorDash has launched a selection of AI-powered tools available for restaurants and retailers, allowing them to optimise online menus and improve customer experience.
The store-to-door delivery app claims that restaurants, grocery stores, and more can create a more seamless and visually appealing ordering experience for customers with the new tools.
Accessible on DoorDash Marketplace and first-party platforms such as Online Ordering – the features include an item description generator, which instantly creates menu descriptions with one click, and an AI-powered camera that captures “professional-quality” foot photos by automatically improving lighting and backgrounds.

It has also launched a new autonomous image approver so merchants can visualise their items faster.
“At DoorDash, we believe AI should make life easier for restaurants – not more complicated,” said Arpit Dhariwal, head of product, merchant acquisition and growth and DoorDash.
“It’s about using automation to enhance the guest experience while keeping the operator’s unique touch front and centre,” Dhariwal added.

“AI-powered tools are built to take everyday tasks off operators’ plates, allowing restaurants to focus on what matters most – delivering great food and service.”
New tools
The instant menu descriptions uses inputs such as item names and existing photos to craft copy.
“With this AI tool, I can whip up mouthwatering descriptions of all of our menu items in just seconds,” said Steve Rezvani, owner of Driftwood Deli & Market.
“The descriptions are much more engaging than what I used to write, and we’ve seen an uptick in orders for items with descriptions, than those without,” he claimed.

To improve visual presentation, DoorDash’s AI-powered camera feature will guide restaurant staff through taking high-quality food photos using smart lighting, background enhancements, and intuitive cropping – without changing the food’s appearance
According to DoorDash, restaurants see a 44% increase in monthly sales for menus with item photos.
DoorDash claims its new automated photo approvals will automatically review and approve select menu item photos that meet its guidelines in one minute, allowing merchants to visualise their products faster.
According to a recent survey by US food industry association FMI, 41% of food retailers and 69% of suppliers are using AI.
