Government technology services provider Conduent has confirmed that a cybersecurity incident was
the cause of service interruption, which left residents in multiple US states without access to critical
support payments, including child support and food assistance, last week.

The disruption affected several state agencies, including Wisconsin’s Department of Children and
Families and Oklahoma Human Services.

In Wisconsin, child support payment processing was halted for much of the week before being
restored on January 19, according to a state spokesperson.

Other states reportedly impacted by the Conduent cybersecurity incident included Oklahoma, which
confirmed its systems are now operational.

A Conduent spokesperson, Sean Collins, told TechCrunch that the issue was contained and all
systems were restored, but declined to provide additional details about the nature of the attack or
whether any data was compromised.

“Maintaining system integrity and functionality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” Collins
said, adding that the company’s technology team had worked to resolve the disruption.

This marks the latest in a series of cybersecurity challenges for Conduent. In 2020, the company
experienced a ransomware attack by the Maze gang, which published stolen documents after the
breach.

The company has yet to disclose whether data was accessed or exfiltrated in the current incident or
issue a formal filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
